The pieces we hold dear are a reflection of what's important to us. They are the items that we treasure and find special places for in our homes. When Rhoda and I created Loot Finer Goods, we made it our mission to inspire others to live simply and surround themselves with beautiful pieces...pieces that would instill joy and make home a place worth settling into. The phrase that kept recurring in Loot Finer Goods' conception, was "Hold Dear". Since launching, that phrase has become somewhat of a mantra for us and the guiding principle as we were building our retail line. For example, nothing short of beauty or character is added to our collection. Each item is hand picked by us because it made our hearts skip a beat, it inspired us, it brought a smile to our faces. The items we create are skillfully crafted with love and our upholstered pieces are designed with unique materials that have a story behind them. We see each item as a treasure just waiting to find its forever home.
In our own homes, we want to apply this same philosophy and resolve to hold dear the items we love - to take them out of hiding and put them on display. It's become the norm to pack our valuables in a box and put it on a shelf in storage or under the bed where we never see them. Why banish these special treasures that bring a smile to our faces to a box under the bed? I believe if we take our most beloved items and set a stage for them to be seen every day, our spaces not only will feel more representative of our true selves but they will become a space we will look forward to coming home to every day.
As I think about some of my most precious items pictured in the video, I realize that all but a couple are on display in my home. My well-worn hat has a special place atop a vintage hat stand on my dresser. The photos are displayed in a basket in my entry way and are gone through often, reminding us of precious memories. The anniversary books that I made are displayed on a shelf in our living room, which grows year after year. The vintage flag hangs in my son's bedroom. My daughter's dried flower crown from her 1st birthday party hangs on her bedroom wall. My mother's shirt is worn often even though its starting to get holes. The two things that were stowed away in a drawer were my Granddad's bible and my ring bearer book from my wedding, both of which I have displayed on my living room shelves now.
As we put our treasures up on the shelf or hang them on the wall, we are reminded of the stories behind them which are then shared with the people we invite into our homes. The more we focus on filling our homes with the things we find beautiful, the more at peace we will be. Love what you surround yourself with. Wake up with a smile seeing the items that bring you joy. Relax in your living room as you feel peace knowing you are identified by the surroundings you hold dear.
We hope you join us and resolve to declutter this year. Resolve to simplify. Resolve to buy with intention. Resolve to hold dear. Resolve to be you.
With Loot Love,
Anna
